First 'brain controlled' TV to launch

By Nick Flaherty www.flaherty.co.uk

It looks like the world's first TV to be controlled by brain waves is really set to launch in a few days time. The  TV, developed by Haier in China, uses embedded EEG technology from Neurosky, which already supplies companies such as Mattel and Toshiba with its ThinkGear system.
The Haier Cloud Smart TV offers the ability for users to interact with their Smart TV using their brains and will be demonstrated at the IFA Consumer Electronics Unlimited Conference. The TV is scheduled to be released in October in China at a price yet to be determined.
The Smart TV can interact with viewers via NeuroSky’s MindReader headset. NeuroSky’s brainwave technology can detect human brainwave patterns revealing a person’s mental state. The NeuroSky MindReader then translates the monitored brainwaves into digital signals that the television can recognize. The brain-controlled TV applications allow users to develop control over their concentration and relaxation abilities through entertainment applications.
NeuroSky is a US-based bio sensor company in Silicon Valley that works with industry partners (from startups to Fortune 500 companies) and with academic and research institutions. NeuroSky provides a platform solution by building wearable, embedded system level sensors that interpret brainwaves and other bio-signals for Human-to-Machine Interface (HMI) technology.
