Imagination teams up to integrate LTE into IoT chips

By Nick Flaherty www.flaherty.co.uk

Imagination Technologies has teamed with Mymo Wireless and SaberTek to provide a complete end-to-end licensable silicon IP for LTE CAT1/0 in chips for the Internet of Things (IoT).

The offering provides IoT chip designers with a low-risk, cost-effective solution that is optimized for low data rate applications such as asset tracking, fleet management, security and surveillance, point of sale, health monitoring, smart metering, and a growing number of other IoT applications.
Companies developing connected IoT devices can achieve cost, power and time-to-market benefits by integrating the LTE connectivity onto the main SoC. This combines Imagination’s low-power Ensigma Series5 radio processing unit (RPU) for LTE baseband, SaberTek’s SBR7040 ultra-low-power LTE transceiver and Mymo’s CAT1/0 LTE UE protocol stack and software which has passed interoperability and certification tests of a tier-1 US cellular carrier lab. The combined IP solution is already implemented in silicon by a leading provider of SoCs for the connected home and IoT.

“Our partnership with Mymo and SaberTek enables customers to get to silicon quickly with a proven end-to-end solution," said Chakra Parvathaneni, president, Imagination Americas and Ensigma Business Operations. "Our flexible Ensigma Series5 RPUs support multiple connectivity standards, and are gaining increased traction especially in areas where standards are continuously evolving, such as in the field of IoT. We believe there is a great opportunity for Ensigma in supporting LTE CAT1/0 for IoT applications.”

Mymo Wireless is a 4G and 5G LTE technology provider that offers air-interface and protocol-stack for LTE User Equipment with customization support for IoT, M2M and high speed dongle markets. Founded in 2009, the company’s single focus is to deliver state-of-the-art solutions including the LTE based IoT chips to customers in different segments of the LTE telecom industry.

SaberTek wireless transceiver IP includes Wi-Fi, WCDMA, LTE, 4G, Bluetooth, 802.15.4, and GNSS as well as ultra-low-power and low-cost transceiver IPs enable Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) applications.
